Meeting Protocol: JW Ventures & Swiss Wine India Logistics
Date: April 8, 2026
Subject: End-to-End Logistics, Warehousing, and Customs Clearance for Swiss F&B Imports (TEPA Framework)
Project Context: Switzerland–India Trade Enablement (TEPA.swiss / Swintra Ventures)
1. Meeting Participants
- Vikram Bhatnagar – Swiss Wine India / TEPA.swiss / Swintra Ventures
- Raaj Jobanputra – JW Ventures (Logistics & Warehousing Partner)
- Ganesh Shetty – former TATA Group, Gash Parts&Dubai (Strategic Facilitator)
- Simar Rochani – HDFC (Strategic Facilitator)
2. Executive Summary & Strategic Context
Our meeting focused on establishing a robust, long-term logistics partnership for importing premium Swiss F&B products into India, beginning with Swiss wine and expanding to cheese and truffles. JW Ventures presented their 4PL capabilities, including extensive temperature-controlled infrastructure and integrated bonded/non-bonded warehousing. The immediate operational goal is to execute an air freight shipment of 840 wine bottles (7 varieties × 120 bottles) from Zurich to Mumbai to secure FSSAI registration and establish the formal duty structure under the India-EFTA TEPA agreement. Appendix 2.C.3 - Wine - HS 2204
3. Key Discussion Points
3.1 JW Ventures Capabilities & Infrastructure
- Scale & Reach: 45-year history, 150,000 pallet locations Pan-India, 350 owned trucks
- Warehousing Model: Integrated custom-bonded and non-bonded facilities under one roof, allowing for partial de-bonding and eliminating secondary transportation risks
- Temperature Control: Facilities range from +25°C to -25°C, CFR 21 Part 11 compliant (international standards for temperature monitoring), with 24/7 client camera access and automated logging
- Value-Added Services: Capability to perform serialization, QR code printing, labeling, and specialized food processing (e.g., grading, cutting, and vacuum packing cheese)
- Digital Integration: WMS (Epicor) is capable of API integration with Swintra's ERP and blockchain and IoT tracking systems
3.2 Initial Wine Shipment Strategy (The "Water Test")
- Scope: 7 validated Swiss wines, 120 bottles each (total 840 bottles)
- Transport: Air freight (e.g. Swiss World Cargo) to expedite market entry and FSSAI registration
- Temperature Requirements: Storage at origin is 12-16°C; acceptable transit/storage range is up to 18-23°C. Protection from UV light is critical
- Labeling: To ensure compliance and traceability, unique QR-coded back labels will be applied in Switzerland prior to export
- Customs & Clearance: JW Ventures will file the bond bill of entry immediately upon landing to minimize airport tarmac time and move cargo directly to their temperature-controlled bonded warehouse
3.3 Regulatory & Licensing Challenges
- TEPA Duty Structure: The goal is to leverage the TEPA agreement for reduced duties (currently 75%, reducing to 25% for CIF >$15). Previous sample shipments for ProWine were denied TEPA concessions; this shipment must be structured commercially
- FL1 License Dependency: Swintra Ventures requires an FL1 license to be the Importer of Record. This license requires a bonded warehouse contract, making the formalization of the JW Ventures partnership a critical path item.
- All other licenses of Swintra Ventures Private Limited can be accessed here: https://www.swisswine.co.in/odoo/documents/MzKa5r4LTyOiD6RLqA4dYAo3e
3.4 Future Expansion (Cheese & Truffles)
- Cheese: JW Ventures confirmed their ability to receive whole Swiss cheese wheels, process, cut, vacuum pack, and label them for retail/HORECA distribution in India
- Truffles: Discussed a conceptual 72-hour farm-to-table supply chain. JW Ventures confirmed operational feasibility, provided origin compliance is seamless

7. Risk & Mitigation Summary
| Risk Factor | Probability | Impact | Mitigation |
| Customs Delay at Airport | High | High | Pre-file bond bill of entry; ensure EUR1 documentation is flawless; schedule night landings to utilize cooler ambient temperatures |
| FL1 License Dependency | Medium | High | Expedite bonded warehouse contract signing with JW Ventures to unblock the FL1 application process |
| TEPA Duty Rejection | Medium | High | Ensure this shipment is clearly documented as commercial inventory, avoiding the "sample" designation that previously caused TEPA concessions to be denied |
| Temperature Excursions | Low | Medium | Utilize IoT sensor-equipped pallets for real-time tracking; rely on JW Ventures' CFR 21 Part 11 compliant storage |
